Indiana Interpreter Certification
Program
Sets a statewide benchmark of behavior and competency for interpreters to ensure
quality, professional interpreting services which protect persons who are deaf
and hard of hearing and the public from misrepresentation. DHHS issues certificates
and identification cards to qualified interpreters and handles grievance procedures.
Indiana Interpreting and Case
Management Funding
Contracts with organizations for interpreting and case management services through
the Interpreter Service Program and Social Services Block Grant. These programs
assist State Government to provide interpreters for consumers of State services.
They also provide interpreting and case management services to ensure language
accessibility for Deaf and hard of hearing people.

National Association of the Deaf (NAD)
The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) is the oldest and largest organization
representing people with disabilities in the United States.
A dynamic federation of 51 state association affiliates, the NAD safeguards the accessibility and civil rights of 28 million deaf and hard of hearing Americans in a variety of areas including education, employment, health care and social services, and telecommunications.
The National Alliance of Black Interpreters
(NABI)
This organization promotes excellence and empowerment among Africa Americans/Blacks
in the profession of sign language interpreting in the context of multi-cultural,
multi-lingual environment.
Conference of Interpreter Trainers (CIT)
Professional association of interpreter educators.
American Translators Association (ATA)
Professional association of translators, which also has an interpreting component.
National Council of Interpreting in Health Care
Is a multidisciplinary organization whose mission is to promote culturally competent
professional health care interpreting as a means to support equal access to
health services for individuals with limited English proficiency.
The NCIHC is composed of leaders from around the country who work as medical interpreters, interpreter services coordinators and trainers, clinicians, policymakers, advocates and researchers.
National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and
Translators (NAJI)
NAJI is a non-profit organization dedicated to the furtherance of the court
reporting and legal translation profession.
National Center for Interpretation Testing,
Research and Policy (NCITRP)
The Center's research mission is to explore the field of interlingual/intercultural
communication from a scholarly and theoretical perspective, to produce relevant
original scholarship, and to serve as a clearinghouse for the research being
done both nationally and internationally in this field.
